Chakra Series Blog Muladhara

Greetings from the slightly chilly Valley of the Sun. I hope your new year is off to a fabulous start!

šŸ˜ƒAs promised, I am starting this year off with a theme to my newsletter blog, and that theme is the Chakra System.

Just like any other system in the body, the Chakra System is an essential part of how we experience health in our everyday life.

The Chakra System is composed of several vortices that move energy in, out, and around the body.

Similar to other bodily systems, it can become imbalanced, blocked or sluggish resulting in a state of ill health, physically, mentally and spiritually.

This system is not seen by the naked eye, cannot be tangibly held in the hands and seems a little mystical.

It isnā€™t treated in Western Medicine, so itā€™s up to each individual person to become aware of it either through a holistic health friend (ME! šŸ˜), learning about it through word of mouth, reading about it or seeing it on the worldwide web or any other number of ways it can come to you.

Literally EVERYTHING in the universe is energy and vibrates at different frequencies, from a tiny molecule or cell in the body, to a grain of sand, to a nebulous cloud in the cosmos.

It would be a little ignorant to think that this system doesnā€™t exist or doesnā€™t need to be maintained to have a healthful life and happy body.

Originating between 1500 and 500 BC in India, the Chakra System was passed down through verbal tradition and the practices of maintaining itā€™s health is still very much alive in cultures worldwide.

Did this spark your interest? GOOD, because we are going to start right off the bat with Muladhara (Root Chakra), meaning ā€˜root supportā€™.

Oh by the way, the names of the chakras are stated in English and in Sanskrit. Please donā€™t call this a dead languageā€¦itā€™s the most ALIVE language there is and is considered a healing language.

ā€œIn Sanskrit, the sound and the meaning are not considered as two different entities but as one and the same. The sounds of Sanskrit carry the qualities of the meaning on the very level of their vibrational frequency

Now letā€™s root down into the Base Chakra. The following contains some information about Muladhara, perhaps youā€™ll recognize some of the signs and symptoms that could be telling you that your root chakra is out of wack or healthy.

Out the 7 Chakra System (there are many more in and around the body, but these are the most worked with) Muladhara is:

  • The first of the lower 3 chakras

  • Located at the perineum (between the genitalia and anus)

  • The color red

  • Is shown having 4 petals (the expression of their vibratory frequency)

  • Associated with the seed sound LAM

The element for this chakra is Earth. Similar to roots of a tree, your root chakra keeps you grounded and stable.

The chakras are associated with different body parts and organs and sometimes share these parts with other chakras. Muladhara is associated with:

  • Tailbone and first 3 vertebrae

  • Hips

  • Legs

  • Feet

  • Adrenal medulla (part of the adrenal gland thatā€™s involved with fight or flight)

  • Rectum

  • Sex organs

  • Large intestines

  • Kidneys

  • Bladder

  • Bottom of the feet

  • Smell

This chakra corresponds to your:

  • Foundation

  • Stability

  • Security

  • Safety

  • Grounding

  • Finding your place in groups, society, family, friends.

  • Connection to emotions

This chakra is the most common to become imbalanced and when one chakra is imbalanced the others are affected by either becoming overly expressive or sluggish.

Here are a few ways that an imbalanced, sluggish or blocked Root chakra presents in both physical and emotional symptoms:

  • Weight issues

  • Hip, knee, and foot problems

  • Chronic low back pain and sciatica

  • Constipation and hemorrhoids

  • Immune related disorders

  • Rectal tumors/cancer

  • Inability to provide for lifeā€™s necessities

  • Inability to stand up for oneā€™s self

  • Guilt and fear

There are many ways to work with healing, balancing, and supporting the chakras. You can use these for Muldahara:

  • Color therapy - Red

  • Crystal therapy - Red Jasper, Bloodstone, Garnet, Hematite

  • Affirmation -I am safe, secure and stable

  • Movement - Walking in nature

  • Meditation - Lying down on the Earth, walking meditation

  • Sound - 396 Hz

  • Foods -Red foods

  • Touch - Foot massage

  • Chanting - LAM
